REBNY COO Sandhya Espitia appointed to NYS Board of Real Estate
The Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY), the city’s premier real estate trade association, today announced that REBNY Chief Operating Officer Sandhya Espitia has been appointed by Governor Kathy Hochul in as a member of the NYS Board of Real Estate. She is now a public representative on the 15-member council and will serve until her term expires on December 31, 2023.
Except for matters delegated specifically to the New York Secretary of State, the NYS Board of Real Estate has general authority to promulgate rules and regulations affecting real estate brokers and salespersons to administer and carry out the purposes of Section 12-A of the State Real Property Act.
The Commission’s activities include prescribing the content of training courses and examinations for real estate brokers and salespersons; establish the rules for the approval of schools providing qualifying and continuing education courses; and study and make recommendations regarding certain laws, regulations and bills affecting brokers and salespersons. In addition, the Council submits an annual report to the judicial committees of the Senate and the Assembly.

Sandhya Espitia is a Colombian-American business transformation executive with experience across five continents. She joined REBNY in 2017 and became its first Chief Operating Officer in 2020, leading organization-wide strategy and operations for programs, products and services affecting the organization’s 15,000 members. She played a pivotal role in democratizing registration data in New York and is now heavily involved in the upcoming launch of Citysnap, New York’s first consumer website for industry and by industry.
Prior to joining REBNY, Sandhya was Global Vice President at ICSC, where she managed learning and innovation initiatives in commercial real estate. Its work has reached 60,000 members in the Americas, Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. Sandhya also worked at Harvard University as a Senior Program Officer for the Americas, where she managed the Fulbright Doctoral Program in Science and Technology for the U.S. Department of State, and served as a Higher Education Advisor. to the governments of seven developing countries. During her career, she has worked closely with foreign governments, non-profit organizations and corporations across all sectors, driving their plans for productivity, competitiveness, change and innovation.
Sandhya holds a BA in Film, Digital Media and Communications from TCU, a Masters in International Education Management from the School for International Training, a Postgraduate Fellowship in Management and Administration from the Harvard University and an MBA from NYU Stern School of Business. She is a coach and advisor for women.nyc and a member of the women’s committee of the Association for a Better New York.
