Real estate agent recognized for 50 years in the industry | Local News
Marilyn McLane has been in the real estate business for 50 years and was recognized for achievement Monday at the Heart of Kentucky Association of Realtors Luncheon held at American Legion Hardin Post 113 in Elizabethtown.
Marilyn and her husband, Hardin McLane, have a total of 112 years of experience in real estate.
“We have been active all the time,” said Marilyn. “We just love what we’re doing.”
The two, who have been married for 62 years, met while attending Western Kentucky University. Eventually, they moved to Elizabethtown when Hardin became the head basketball coach at Elizabethtown Catholic High School. He was a teacher and coach for 12 years and sold real estate during the summer.
“He realized that he made more money in the summer by selling real estate than he taught at school,” said Marilyn.
In 1971, Hardin created her own real estate company and Marilyn obtained her real estate license. Their business was eventually bought by Coldwell Banker McMahan and the two McLanes, who are 87 and 84, continue to work there.
When Marilyn received a plaque and recognized for her years in the industry on Monday, her fellow real estate agents gave her a standing ovation.
“I love working with each of you,” she told the audience. “Thank you very much and I look forward to a few more years.”
Marilyn declared that real estate had been beneficial to them.
Heart of Kentucky Association of Realtors president Mike Thomas called the couple “the example.”
“We certainly appreciate you. It is a pleasure to work with all of you, ”he said.
